Band Biography for Kwame D.:

Kwame D perform a rich variety of soulful material, infectious stylings of Reggae, R&B and World Music. They are Kwame Yempew (originally from Ghana) on guitar and vocals. Jeff Willacy on an array of percussion from across the world. Bassist, singer and guitarist, David Willacy, joined Kwame D in 2007.

Recent review: “Kwame’s extraordinary voice— notable for its amazing range,
expressive shading and totally natural, unselfconscious emotional power, matched by his strong and idiosyncratic guitar style which incorporates infectious blues, soul and reggae in roughly equal measure.” David Kidman of Rock n Reel.

Jeff’s use of percussive instruments such as the Djembe (originally from the Gambia and Senegal), the Moroccan clay bongos, the dolak from India, the Dabourka, Congas and many more, all in combination with chimes and cymbals, set the seal on Kwame’s self-developed percussive guitar style, creating a joyous blend.

Kwame D have released three albums so far,
“Falling Down Tonight”, a soulful EP released in 2000,
“Things Are Lookin’ Up”, a 12 track album released in 2002, (re-issued in 2006), and “Kwame D Live!”, a live album released in 2007.

Kwame D’s sound continues to evolve with new textures and rhythms.
