Hello and welcome to another week of live music in Leeds. Whether you’re looking to stumble upon a new favourite band in a cosy basement or catch some high-energy sounds at one of our larger institutions, the city is buzzing as usual. August is in full swing, and there’s plenty to keep your ears busy.

The Week Ahead: From Intimate Jams to Explosive Riffs

If you’re feeling the urge to get creative, Northern Guitars is the place to be. They’ve got their classic Open Mic on Monday, followed by their reliable Jam Night on Tuesday. It’s always a brilliant way to meet fellow musicians or just enjoy the local talent.

For those after something a bit more unconventional, head to Hyde Park Book Club on Tuesday for Toad In The Black Hole and Amore. If you like your music with heavy riffs and funky grooves, this is going to be a highlight. Later in the week, don't miss the Jazz for Adults' fundraiser on Thursday; it's a great chance to catch the Leeds Improvisers Orchestra while supporting a fantastic cause.

The Brudenell Social Club is, as always, hosting some essential nights. Keep an eye out for The Bats on Friday—their blend of jangle-pop and psych-rock is always a joy. If you’re in the mood for something louder, Molars are bringing their honest, high-energy emo to the Lending Room on Friday night.

Finally, Saturday at St George's Church promises to be something special with Hayao Miyazaki's Dreams by Mystery Ensemble. It’s a beautiful way to spend an evening, soaking in the iconic soundtracks of Joe Hisaishi in a stunning setting.

Just Announced

It’s been a busy week for tour announcements, and there’s some real quality to look forward to as we head into the autumn and beyond.

If you’re a fan of complex, creative soundscapes, make a note of Whait (the project of Wendy Eisenberg and More Eaze) at Wharf Chambers on Wednesday 2nd September. It promises to be a fascinating night of guitar improv and synthetic textures.

For those who like to be part of the action, Kibitz are heading back to The Arches Social on Friday 4th September for a single launch that doubles as a music video filming session—so dress to impress!

Looking further ahead into 2027, the big names are starting to fill up our diaries. We’ve got the legendary Megadeth hitting the First Direct Arena on Friday 19th March 2027, and the ever-enduring Weezer arriving on Monday 17th May 2027.
