Treppenwitz in Leeds
Saturday 27th October 2018
Treppenwitz, led by pianist Matthew Aplin, is a band playing improvised music with a familial approach. The central philosophy is that all music is related, outgrowths from the same seed; where passages of explorative beauty and space sit alongside energetic bursts of freedom. The music is written by the members, with something open-ended deliberately in mind; the shapes and contours of the music develop organically, different every time, always seeking.
Following a successful 17-date tour through the UK earlier in the year (with generous support from Arts Council England), this autumnal date will be a pivotal point during Treppenwitz’s second journey through these isles.
Treppenwitz were recently selected for the Jazz North “Northern Line” touring scheme, which has helped make this gig possible. Their debut album, ‘Short+Long Ditties’, was released on New Jazz Records in 2016. A second album already recorded awaits release, and they will revisit the studio to record their third in the autumn.
